Where good food kinks are glorified

Category Archives: Uncategorized

It is that time of year again, where I hope that I have been good enough to deserve gifts from friends and family. Just incase they wonder what I want the most, here is a list of the things I would love.

The kMix Kitchen Mixer £249-£400

KitchenMachines-KMX93-800x600-1For many years I have wanted the other known brand for kitchen mixers, but after the launch of the kMix by Kenwood, I think I have converted. It’s design is more sleek and compact than space-hogging retro chic. I think I much prefer a quantifiable dial with 6 speeds and a pulse action which features on this. The neat thing about getting a kitchen mixer, you know that second-guessing what I want for christmas would be easier when you know there are optional attachments. Currently these are selling faster than cronuts, so order them quickly!

Stocking Filler Chefn’ Garlic Zoom £10

Garlic CutterAs the chance of colds and infections increases, so has my consumption of garlic, lemon and ginger. Therefore what would make my life a lot easier and less smelly is this nifty garlic cutter. It is available in 3 pop colours of green, pink and purple.

Victorinox Santoku Knife £37.98

Victorinox knife

Despite it being incredibly bad luck to receive knives as a gift, a well crafted knife would be highly regarded in my books. Having tried out a friend’s own Victorinox chef knife, I have my heart set on their Santoku one with wood handle. Victorinox have been making knives since 1884, the weight distribution is balanced perfectly to be heavier in your hand than the blade and not to mention how well the blade retains it’s sharpness. If you are going to receive a gift of bad luck, do it properly.

Bake Your Own 3D Safari Animals £9.95

Original Bake Your Own 3D Safari Animals

Because it is good to rebel and play with your food. Especially if they look as fun as these, these are from Not on the high street, and you can collect all four cutters in Elephant, Hippo, Lion and Giraffe.

Raw Honey, Bee Mercy, £15 per kg

Raw Honey

Find me someone who hates the gift from the humble bumblebee. I love honey and the diverse tastes each pot of honey can bring. Raw, unprocessed honey has all it’s health benefits but you should be converted on just taste alone. Bee Mercy are a small honey seller in London and their dedication to different types of honey is second to none.

Personalised Cake Tins £39

Personalised Cake Tin

Due to ever disappearing cake tins that have circulated between my friends, it would be a handy reminder to return them!

Unexpectedly I have put myself in a serious grave situation. My friend Andy and I bond over our shared passion for food. Normally we are collaborators in ideas & cooking techniques. However when I told him of my successful first batch of mince pies I made for a christmas house party over the weekend, He declared that he could make better mince pies than that. The oven glove has been thrown down and we are going to enter into a mince pie bake off.

Andy vs. Me!!

We are going to have a judging panel of 6. 3 positions have been filled.
These are the rules:
We will bake it in one venue with an adjudicator so no cheating or attempts to foil the opposition.
Judges are strictly not allowed to have any involvement in the research & development process. (This is going to be hard on or judges since they live with Andy & the other is my beloved)
This is a blind tasting.
Judges will also mark based on 3 categories – pastry, mince meat and presentation.
Highest overall score wins.

So Andy, better buy yourself an apron with the words “Novice”on it & watch the mistress of mince pies work her magic.
